On May 16, the Austin City Council will vote on Phase 2 of “H.O.M.E.”, Compatibility Reductions, and ETOD overlays and upzonings. These are sweeping and reckless land-use changes that will impact neighborhoods throughout Austin, raise your taxes, and displace countless families.

How to Sign Up for the May 16 Council Meeting
We urge you and your neighbors to register to attend this crucial meeting! To do so online, click here and then follow the instructions listed below. IMPORTANT: Online registration closes at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 15.
- Click on the orange “Agenda Item Speaker Sign-Up” button.
- Then click the orange “Next” button.
- Select the “May 16, 2024 – Regular City Council Meeting” option and then click the orange “Next” button.
- Click on agenda items 004 (compatibility reductions), 005 (ETOD overlay), 006 (“H.O.M.E.” Phase 2), and 003 (mass rezoning of more than 1,000 properties as part of the DBETOD district). You may use the control key (PC) or the command key (Mac) to select multiple items.
- Scroll down and select the “Against / En Contra” option, then click the orange “Next” button.
- The system will then ask you whether you wish to speak before the council on May 16. If you wish to speak, you may do so either in-person or remotely.
You will know your registration was successful when you receive an email from the city. Additional instructions will be provided by the city at that time.
Remote speakers will receive a second email on May 15 and will be called by the city clerk at 10:00 AM on May 16.
In-person registration for speaking can also be completed at City Hall kiosks starting at 12:00 PM on May 15, and ending at 9:15 AM on May 16.
Tips for Speaking Out Publicly
- According to city guidelines, speakers will have three minutes to speak per item and will be able to donate time. Time may be donated for up to six minutes of donated time, for a maximum of nine minutes per individual speaker. Speakers wishing to donate time must coordinate with the city clerk prior to being called. All parties (speakers and time donors) must be present at the meeting to be eligible for donation of time.
- Tell personal stories! The most powerful testimony is how these policies impact you, how they increase the danger of floods, fires, traffic, parking, or other infrastructure issues.
- Have similar policies already harmed your home or neighborhood? If so, let council members know!
- Any handouts or information you want to provide to the city council must be emailed to the city clerk by 12:00 PM on May 16.
- Presentations contained on USB drives must be verified before they are shown.
