This is not a drill.

On Friday, October 4th, our mayor and city council are scheduled to release a map showing the extent of their controversial “Son of CodeNEXT” rezoning proposal, which threatens to do away with single-family neighborhoods throughout Austin.

The Son of CodeNEXT is worse than its infamous predecessor. It allows the replacement of thousands of single-family homes with buildings up to 45 feet tall, with up to 10 residential units in each. It lets developers lay down more concrete and other impervious cover, increasing the likelihood of neighborhood flooding. It strips away parking requirements, which will worsen traffic and pack Austin’s neighborhoods with more cars. It will also raise the property taxes of homeowners in and near affected areas, leading to the displacement of longtime residents and the demolition of their homes.

Worst of all, city officials are refusing to give Austinites proper notice of the rezoning. They are hoping to rezone tens of thousands of homes quickly and quietly, without the involvement of people like you.

Community Not Commodity won’t let that happen. We will soon release a set of tools that Austin’s homeowners can use to fight the Son of CodeNEXT. Click here to join our email list, and we will notify you as soon as it is ready.

Together we can build an Austin for everyone!
