You did it! The petition requiring a public vote on CodeNEXT has been filed!

This petition includes the signatures of 32,000 registered Austin voters who demand to be heard. Some are homeowners. Some are renters. Some are business owners, and some are students. They range in age from 18 to 118.

Here’s what they all have in common: They don’t want the City of Austin to rezone their property, raise their taxes, inflate their rent, or displace their neighbors before they have an opportunity to express their voice at the ballot box.

Our work isn’t done, though. CodeNEXT supporters in City Hall may try to fight the petition in court—and in the meantime, they are going to try to approve the plan before November, when voters head to the polls.

That means we need to step up the pressure! If you’re worried about Austin’s gentrification and cost of living getting worse, make sure to do the following:

Attend the CodeNEXT hearing on April 28. On Saturday, April 28, the City of Austin is holding a public hearing on CodeNEXT at the Dove Springs Recreation Center, located at 5801 Ainez Drive. Bring 10 friends and neighbors, arrive at 9:30 AM, and tell city officials to stop CodeNEXT!

Attend the CodeNEXT hearing on June 2. On Saturday, June 2, the City of Austin is holding a public hearing on CodeNEXT at City Hall, located at 301 W. 2nd Street. Bring 10 friends and neighbors, arrive at 9:30 AM, and tell city officials to stop CodeNEXT!

Call Mayor Steve Adler at 512-978-2100. Call Mayor Steve Adler and tell him to stop the gentrification of Austin and the displacement of its most vulnerable residents. Tell him you can’t afford to pay higher property taxes. Tell him to pull the plug on CodeNEXT today!

Thanks for your support—and a jumbo-sized THANKS to everyone who signed the petition and helped collect signatures. You’re what makes this city a special place. Let’s keep it that way!

Together we can build an Austin for everyone!
